As the end of the year approaches, we are seeing many new chocolatey delights be introduced to consumers. From a twist on a classic festive favourite through to the latest vegan offerings, Kennedy’s reveals what to expect in the run-up to Christmas.
Christmas is no doubt one of the most ‘chocolatey’ occasions on many of our calendars. And so, once again chocolate manufacturers and retailers are upping their game to provide the latest sweet treats to supermarket shelves.
Here’s an overview of what’s to come over the next few months:
Moo Free festive favourites
Two new Christmas products are being added to the Moo Free festive range – Olivia the Bear and White Choccy Snowball.
Growing at an average 30% year on year, Moo Free has won more than 100 Free-From and Vegan Awards. Its huge popularity stems from its appeal to those with allergies or who are following a plant-based or vegan diet. The product range is free from dairy, gluten and soya and uses high quality, ethical chocolate.
Moo Free’s new Olivia the Bear White Chocolate (RRP: £2.99) is being introduced following on from the popularity of its milk chocolate counterpart, Oscar the Bear. Olivia is made using Moo Free’s white chocolate. Gluten-free, soya-free, and suitable for vegans, Olivia is dubbed the ‘perfect’ stocking filler for those with allergies or intolerances.
The second new Christmas treat from Moo Free is the White Choccy Snowball (RRP: £2.50). Containing vegan marshmallows and honeycomb to appeal to children and adults.
Moo Free will also be bringing back its festive favourites this Christmas. The range includes a choice of Advent Calendars, a Selection box and a host of Santa and Snowman shaped chocolate bars and festive figures. Each product is guaranteed to be free from gluten, dairy, and soya.
Andrea Jessop, Moo Free CEO comments: “Sales of our Christmas range have enjoyed double-digit growth each year, alongside the success of our all-year-round range. We are appealing to the increasing number of people following a range of diets from gluten-free to vegan. Our 2021 Christmas range is the largest yet with something for everyone, so we would urge retailers to stock up early.”
Moo Free Christmas products are listed in leading supermarkets including Tesco, Waitrose, Morrisons, Ocado, Asda, Aldi UK, and Lidl.
KitKat Festive Friends Bag
After proving to be a hit with consumers when launched last Christmas, KitKat Santa is back – and with a brand-new product to boot. The KitKat Festive Friends Bag 220g is filled with individually wrapped, festive shapes including mini KitKat Santas, a Christmas tree, elf, gingerbread man, snowman, and reindeer. Ideal for sharing with friends and family, the new bag joins the 29g impulse bar, a 5-bar multipack and a 55g bag of individually wrapped mini Santas.
Aero Festive Snowy White Block
The new Aero Festive Snowy White Block follows the successful launch of Dreamy White Snowbubbles last year and features the same ‘bubbly taste sensation’, with a white centre enrobed in smooth milk chocolate. The Aero Dreamy White Snowbubbles 80g bag also returns to the range for 2021, after becoming the No.1 new bag launch at Christmas last year.
Milkybar Festive Friends
Like KitKat, Milkybar is launching a Milkybar Festive Friends Sharing Bag. This unique white chocolate offering has a selection of festive shapes with a creamy white filling and crispy pieces, individually wrapped to retain freshness and quality.
Each bag contains seven pieces from an assortment of seasonal shapes, such as a gingerbread man, bauble, Christmas tree, stocking, snowman, and Santa. It’s described as an ideal treat for sharing, for baking decorations, and to fill an advent calendar or stocking.
Giant tubes and selection boxes
A more grown-up twist on giant tubes is the brand-new After Eight Giant Tube. It features bitesize pieces of dark chocolate filled with mint fondant.
The After Eight Giant Tube joins a range that ‘offers something for everyone’, including family favourites Rowntree’s, Smarties, Milkybar and Polo. As with the rest of the Smarties range, Smarties Giant Tubes now come in fully recyclable paper packaging.
The selection box is a Christmas mainstay, and this year Nestlé has rounded up some of its best-loved brands for the new Christmas Selection box. The selection includes KitKat 4 Finger, KitKat Chunky, Aero Peppermint, Aero Milk, Yorkie, and Rowntree’s Fruit Pastilles, packaged in a festive box.
Quality Street was once again the No.1 brand at Christmas in 2020. This year, a new Quality Street 2kg Tin will be available nationally for the first time, while the Quality Street Purple One and Strawberry One novelty gift boxes have reduced their plastic packaging and moved to fully recyclable cartons.
In addition, After Eight has put its own spin on the favourite tipple (Mojito) with a new flavour variant–After Eight Mojito & Mint. Available in a 200g carton, the limited-edition product is anticipated to be as big a hit as last year’s successful After Eight Gin & Tonic & Mint. Meanwhile the ever popular After Eight Christmas tin has been given a new design.
According to Nestlé, orange-flavoured chocolate remains a fast-growing trend, with sales growing 25% in 2020. Therefore, the confectionery brand believes that orange chocolate fans are ‘sure to love’ the new offering from Quality Street Intrigue – orange truffles wrapped in milk chocolate and sprinkled with dried orange segments.
Also new in boxed chocolates for 2021 is Aero Bliss Peppermint. Peppermint joins the Aero Bliss Mixed Selection, which includes milk chocolate, salted caramel, and praline flavours.
Meanwhile festive favourite Quality Street Matchmakers, available in Cool Mint and Zingy Orange has had a design refresh and now uses 20% less packaging.
Dairy Box has been an iconic, heritage gifting brand since 1936. This year, the sweet range has been revamped to include Salted Toffee for the first time, alongside ‘juicier and tangier’ flavours in the Orange Surprise and new Strawberry Kiss, and new shapes for the Chocolate Velvet and Cookies & Crème sweets. The box and tray are also now fully recyclable.
The Dairy Box Winter Collection 388g box will return to the range with a refreshed design while Black Magic, an iconic heritage brand since 1933, has also been revamped this year with a strong new look.
