Nestlé has announced the launch of a vegan KitKat – described as a new plant-based way to have a break.

Due to be rolled out in the UK this year is the new KitKat V, which features smooth chocolate blended with plant-based ingredients, which will balance the brand’s trademark crisp wafer.

KitKat V has been developed by chocolatiers and food scientists in Nestlé’s Research and Development centre in York, the original home of KitKat.

KitKat V will be certified vegan and, like the rest of the KitKat range, it made from 100% sustainable cocoa, sourced through the Nestlé Cocoa Plan in conjunction with the Rainforest Alliance. KitKat V will be available in the UK later this year. In the meantime, fans not following a plant-based diet can try the new dark and white chocolate KitKat Zebra, which is available now.

Alex Gonnella, Marketing Director for Nestlé Confectionery, said: “There is a quiet food revolution underway that is changing how people eat. We want to be at the forefront of that, championing the discovery of plant-based food and beverages. What better proof of that than offering a plant-based version of one of our oldest and most famous brands? The new KitKat V means people can enjoy a delicious vegan option when they have a break.”
