Cocoa butter equivalents (CBEs) are specialty fats compatible with cocoa butter. They help deliver the melting profile and functionality that manufacturers need.
In chocolate, up to 5% CBEs can be used in a recipe, while maintaining “chocolate” designation in the EU. In compounds, cocoa butter can be partially or fully replaced, creating significant cost-saving opportunities – up to 30%.
With this background, Cargill is introducing the Coconera® CBE range in Europe. The launch gives customers another way to balance cost, quality, and flexibility.
Coconera® delivers excellent meltdown, bloom stability, and process compatibility. It isn’t simply about replacing cocoa butter. It’s about giving manufacturers more flexibility to manage volatility, while continuing to deliver the indulgent experiences consumers expect.
Reliable supply. Proven expertise.
CBEs are significantly less exposed to cocoa market volatility and can offer a more cost-effective alternative to cocoa butter. But as demand has grown, finding reliable supply has become a challenge for many manufacturers.
European customers have told Cargill they were looking for a scalable CBE solution from a trusted partner. Now the wait is over! Coconera® already has a proven track record across Asia, Turkey, North and South America.
Backed by almost 100 years of oils expertise and 40 years as part of the Cargill family, European production of Coconera® at Zaandam (The Netherlands) combines the flexibility to manage specialty products with the scale customers depend on. It expands local availability and provides the capacity, consistency and quality, that Cargill customers, expect.
Experience Coconera® at Fi Europe
At Fi Europe 2026 (Stand: #31H80), visitors will be invited to taste three samples side by side (labeled using Cargill decoration transfer sheets) and answer one question: which praline uses the conventional milk-chocolate reference?
Compare the texture, melt, mouthfeel and flavor release of each sample before discovering which formulation is which. The tasting creates a direct way to explore how technical changes in the fat system translate into the finished sensory experience.
It’s a great example of how Coconera® helps you cut costs, strengthen supply confidence and keep delivering the indulgent experiences consumers love.
