Walker’s Shortbread, the family-run bakery based in Aberlour, Scotland, has been awarded a prestigious Royal Warrant of Appointment from His Majesty King Charles III for the supply of shortbread and oatcakes to the Royal Household.
The announcement marks a historic moment for the 126-year-old company, which has been synonymous with traditional Scottish baking. Nicky Walker, Managing Director at Walker’s, expressed the family’s pride and gratitude:
“It is a privilege for Walker’s to be granted a Royal Warrant of Appointment from His Majesty King Charles III. As an independent, family-run business, we are extremely proud to carry the Royal Warrant, which is a great honour and a true mark of recognition for our service and commitment to baking ‘Scotland at its finest’ for over a century.”
The achievement holds special significance for the Walker family, following the recent passing of Sir Jim Walker, a key figure in the company’s history. Reflecting on the legacy of her uncle, Nicky Walker added:
“It is particularly poignant to receive the appointment following the very sad passing of my uncle, Sir Jim Walker. My uncle, my father Joe, and my aunt Marjorie were extremely proud when Walker’s was granted the Royal Warrant by the late Queen Elizabeth II, and I know how delighted they would have been by this appointment from His Majesty King Charles III. This award is testament to their legacy.”
Continuing a legacy of royal recognition
Walker’s Shortbread first received a Royal Warrant in 2002 from Queen Elizabeth II and the Queen Mother for the supply of shortbread and oatcakes. The new appointment from King Charles III solidifies the company’s status as one of Scotland’s finest exporters and bakers.
To date, Walker’s Shortbread is exported to nearly 100 markets worldwide and is a four-time winner of the Queen’s Award for Export Achievement. The brand’s commitment to quality remains unwavering, with all products made using the finest ingredients and adhering to traditional recipes.
Walker’s longstanding relationship with the Royal Family includes a memorable visit from then-Prince Charles in 2001, when he officially opened the company’s new factory in Aberlour. A photo from the occasion, featuring Joe Walker, Sir Jim Walker, Marjorie Walker, and King Charles, highlights the deep connection between the Royal Household and the Walker family.
