MFG Tray’s new patent pending, lighter weight starch tray provides many of the benefits of our standard trays. These benefits include dimensional stability, cleanability and long life at a reduced cost. This will enable customers who have, in the past thought, that composites were too expensive to enjoy the benefits of composite trays at a very competitive price point. The lighter weight starch trays are 20% lighter than our standard trays, so they can extend machine life and increase profits by cutting downtime.  

In the early 1970s, MFG Tray found a gap in the confectionery industry – the need for a tray that lasted longer, was easy to clean and available at a reasonable price. In response to this need, the first composite starch tray was born. Before the introduction of the company’s composite trays, the only product available was wood trays, which had been the standard for many years. However, this product certainly had its problems. The sole reason for the development of the MFG Tray composite starch tray was that the company knew it had the experience and knowledge to provide a tray that would generate a more efficient process for confectionery operations. Today, MFG Tray has over 70 models offered and custom designs available. 

The benefits of using the composite trays were quickly recognised. The only noticeable drawback was that the new product cost is slightly more than the traditional wood trays. As more companies tried the trays, they began to realise that the increase in production that was achieved, and not having to constantly replace the wood trays, made them the best value. Other benefits of MFG Tray starch trays include secure stacking, consistent drying time, compatibility with high-speed machines, expels moisture and starch residue and easy integration with standard FRP or wood. 

In response to confectionery manufactures desire for a material that is detectable in their finished product should a tray become damaged, MFG Tray developed and introduced their patented X-DTectTM composite material made from high-strength, glass-reinforced composites specifically formulated for X-ray detection. Thanks to this innovative new material, product contamination can be detected down to 1 cubic millimeter.
