Rising Orange has been named Sensient Technologies’ Colour of the Year for 2021, as it “takes refuge in nature and symbolises the shade of a new day,” following the challenges presented in 2020.
According to Sensient, the rising orange sun “warms the globe on the new year” and provides a “sense of renewal and optimism” as consumers seek out packaged goods to help recharge from the prior year and the impact of COVID-19.
Mike Geraghty, President of Sensient Colors LLC, explains: “Evocative of the colours of a new dawn, “Rising Orange” is a hue, weathered by the unprecedented times of the pandemic, but optimistically bright for restoration in the New Year. It’s a joyful, enthusiastic orange full of hope, to awaken consumers’ energy for renewal.”
According to Sensient, which manufactures flavours, colours and extracts, there is a collective desire from consumers and brands alike to progress forward with unity.
In addition, Sensient explains that consumers are seeking comfort and are in pursuit of renewal and newness, “which are the components of the “Rising Orange” taste profile created by Sensient Flavors & Extracts”.
The new profile is a combination of citrus and orange blossoms, with a comforting fruity profile offering that “delivers a burst reminiscent of a childhood-favourite candy”.
