Squires Kitchen has unveiled its newly re-branded and reformulated range of sugarpastes following the company’s acquisition by Rainbow Dust.
The new recipe has been developed in conjunction with a group of Rainbow Dust’s most experienced ambassadors. Improvements include better performance and malleability – which allow the sugarpastes to be rolled extra thin and create sharp edges – as well as a pleasing vanilla aroma.
In addition, the packaging has undergone a modern update and is now made from recyclable film.
Louise Wane, Managing Director of Rainbow Dust and Squires Kitchen, comments: “The new sugarpaste formulation is a huge improvement on its previous incarnation. We took on board the recommendations of our team of baking ambassadors, and the new version has a silky, smooth consistency which isn’t sticky and doesn’t dry out. It holds its structure really well to create clean, sharp edges and a professional finish, and has a greater stretch so it can be rolled thinner, which is ideal for taller and larger cakes.”
Available sizes and colours:
250g – Bridal White, Tuxedo Black, Glamour Red, Cosmic Blue, Delicate Lemon, Leaf Green
1kg – Bridal White, Vintage Ivory, Tuxedo Black, Glamour Red
2.5kg – Bridal White
All of the colours are vegan, and the Bridal White version is also kosher.
Shelf life: 18 months
Private label opportunities
Investment in new machinery at the company’s Preston HQ also means the sugarpastes can be manufactured to order, providing capability for private label opportunities.
Kyle Rodgers, Commercial Director at Rainbow Dust & Squires Kitchen, explains: “We’ve recently invested in fully-automated flow wrap and VMAG machines to drive efficiencies and ultimately open the door for new opportunities across retail, wholesale and foodservice.
“This is an extremely exciting time for the business and we’re now in a position to offer private label products to new and existing customers.”

How much sugarpaste do I need?
As a rough guide for a round cake: 500g covers a 6 inch, 750g covers an 8 inch, 1kg covers a 10 inch, and 1.25kg covers a 12 inch. Square cakes need slightly more. Add another 250g if you are also covering the cake board. The 1kg packs work well for tiered builds where you want to cover board and cake from the same colour batch.
